Born in the Philippines in 1982, Hermes Camacho was raised in Davis, California.  Recent notables
include awards from SCI/ASCAP 2006, the 2008 ArtsAha! Festival (Omaha, Nebraska), 60x60, the
Dallas Wind Symphony, and the Texas String Project, participation in the
Music06 and Music08
Festivals, selection for GAMMA-UT 2008, and commissioning support from the National Endowment
for the Arts and the Vermont Arts Council.  In the spring of 2009, his
Caprices were taken on tour
throughout the United States.

For the 2005-2006 season, he served as
Composer-in-Residence with the Boulder Youth
Symphony Society and was a 2008 Composer Fellow at the Chamber Music Conference of the East
in Bennington, Vermont.  He has also participated in several masterclasses, most notably with John
Adams, Steve Reich, Donald Crockett, Jennifer Higdon, and Augusta Read Thomas.

Hermes has studied composition at
California State University, Long Beach and the University of
Colorado at Boulder with Carolyn Bremer, Robin Cox, Daniel Kellogg, and Richard Toensing, violin
with
Kimiyo Takeya, and conducting with Akira Endo and Richard Rintoul.  Currently, he lives in
Austin, Texas with his wife, Jaclyn, studying composition with
Donald Grantham,  Yevgeniy Sharlat
and
Dan Welcher at the The University of Texas at Austin.  Every summer, Hermes serves on the
faculty of the
Sacramento Youth Symphony Chamber Music Workshop, as conductor and chamber
music coach.  He is also an assistant instructor at UT and serves on the composition committee for
GAMMA-UT.

In his spare time, Hermes is an avid fan of sports, following the ups and (mostly) downs of the San
Francisco 49ers, Giants, and Sacramento Kings, as well as the Big 12 Conference, spending time
with his wife, a good barbecue, and endlessly harassing their cats, Mango and Nigel.
